“Looking for awesome music??”

This week I am doing another list. This time I wanted to shout out to 7 bands we have become friends with. I will be posting a video and my personal thoughts on them with each band…so lets begin!

  1. Shiny Penny

We haven’t played more shows with any band over the past year than we have with Shiny Penny. Their music is the perfect mold of pop, rock, and even some blues elements. If you like bands like Maroon 5, The Fray, or Coldplay you will love what you hear from Shiny Penny! Here is their video for one of my favorite songs of thiers “Open Out” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfEl24UO014

  1. Jocef Michael Band

We just recently started getting connected with Jocef and his band. They do a really good job of taking a lot of genres of music and complimenting them with a strong pop element. If there is any lesser known local band in Columbus that we have met that can break out in 2017 this is the band! You can really hear influences from XAmbassadors, The Roots, and even some rapping reminiscent of Kanye West in their music. They throw down so if you get a chance please check them out! Here is a video of them doing “Dead Man Walking” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlKk0pajOBQ

  1. Ever Burning Bright

These guys rock! We both started playing at virtually the same time, we actually both played our first show on the same night. Since then they have become really good friends of ours and last year I was roommates with their guitarist Aaron so I got a lot of chances to see these guys perform. Everyone seems to always compare female fronted bands to Paramore but if you like Halestorm, I Am Empire, or even a bit of Flyleaf I guarantee you will love these guys! 1. Graceful Closure

I was introduced to Graceful Closure’s frontman, Jared, by a mutual friend years ago. Since then it has been amazing to see how they have continued to progress both in the public eye and musically. Their new single “Unknown Land” is one of my favorite local tracks of 2016 and next year might be primed for a huge breakout from this trio. They have a sound that really reminds me of Imagine Dragons with a little bit of a Coldplay feel as well. However you classify them, don’t sleep on these guys. 1. Room & Board

Austin’s favorite local band by a mile. This Columbus trio is one of the tightest bands out there. Their frontman, Jonathan actually helped us record our first ever single “Can’t Marry This” and has continued to be a big supporter of the kind of music we create. If you like the vocal melodies of The Arctic Monkey’s or the smooth sound of The Strokes you will instantly be a fan of Room & Board and for those that like their classic bands these guys would fit right in with Television. Here is a video of their song “Against” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeJhEk9P_4A

  1. Safekept

One of our best friends in music. A lot of our opportunities to play shows early on came through them. They have taken us everywhere in Ohio from Sandusky, to Newark, to Obetz and more. Their guitarist Nicholas was also the other guy to help make “Can’t Marry This” a reality. Frontman, Jeremiah Wagner is one of our favorite people to watch perform on stage, he leaves everything up there every time he plays and it is so fun to watch! If you like Jimmy Eat World you will quickly come to appreciate their music. They also have a bit of a Cartel sound as well. Check out this video Jeremiah doing an acoustic version of their song “Shape and Form” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um8SvqABlWA

  1. Jordan Allen & The Bellweathers

The last band on my list. We actually have yet to play a show with these folk rockers from Kentucky but that will change this Friday when they join us for the Ugly Sweater Party at Kitamu Coffee! Jordan has been an awesome guy to start to know and from what I’ve heard you will not want to miss their first ever Columbus performance this weekend! They have a sound that reminds me a lot of old Mumford & Sons or The Avett Brothers. They also do a really good job with cover songs. Their cover of All About That Bass made me an instant fan but where they really shine is this cover of “Staying Alive”. Enjoy! – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6HBOU4ttjM

  1. Plaid Brixx

Their bass player Jared is a good friend of mine. We met through a music camp we volunteered for at our church. Since then a couple guys in our band have seen them perform and Jared even helped Austin get some music recorded for his solo project he had. These guys have a really poppy sound that will get stuck in your head really quickly. They have an EP that released recently that is full of good songs that fit right in with some of the other pop-rock acts in Columbus like Kid Runner or Truslow. I especially like their song “Don’t Look Down” so here it is – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7-ne2um_04

If you get a chance be sure to follow us and these bands on facebook, twitter, and instagram to keep up with future shows and music releases! Thanks, see you next Monday!
