Top 10 Movies

This week I am going to give you a list of Ex-Nihilo’s favorite movies. Me, Austin, and David got together a couple days ago and made this comprehensive list of our favorite movies. These are not necessarily the most award winning movies or anything, but these 10 movies we love and still enjoy watching.

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back – As a collective we decided that this is the best Star Wars movie to date. Between the awesome fight scenes, excellent storytelling, and one of the biggest reveals in movie history, this one had to make the list.

The Prestige – This is David and I’s all-time favorite movie, it tells the story of two rival magicians and the lengths they go just for the sake of the best magic trick ever. Every scene of this movie foreshadows the final act and I’ve seen this movie maybe 10-15 times and it never gets old.

The Dark Knight – We decided we needed at least one superhero movie on this list. It came down to Batman Begins, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and The Dark Knight. While overall I think Marvel makes much better movies than DC does, the Batman trilogy is the best superhero trilogy ever and with that being the case we chose the movie with the best villain and that was easily The Joker in this movie

School of Rock – It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll! This was our decision on our favorite comedy. There might be a slight bias since we are musicians but regardless this is a classic! This movie was so good that they even had a 10 year cast reunion! Jack Black still has yet to top this performance and the child cast they chose was perfect.

Momento – The third Christopher Nolan directed movie on this list. Momento is one of the most unique movies we’ve ever seen. I won’t ruin it for you but from the first scene you will be wondering what exactly is going on, and scene by scene you will begin to put pieces together and by the end you will be thinking “Wow I need to watch this again”. I was forced to watch it in a film class in high school, and I am glad I was. This is a masterpiece.

Mr. Nobody – It’s on Netflix, go watch it, if you like sci-fi dramas you won’t be disappointed. A top 5 movie for me personally, don’t look at any reviews or summary’s of the movie before you see it, it will blow your mind.

Catch Me If You Can – When we were cutting down the list of movies we like two actors were mentioned a few times: Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. Both of these actors have a ton of good movies under their belt so we thought, why not a really good movie starring both of them! This movie has a lot of twists and turns and what makes it even cool is that is allegedly based on a true story!

Enemy – This movie is a favorite of me and Austin. If you like psychological movies that also have a good chunk of artistic filming you will love this movie. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal and his character sees someone that looks very similar to him. The movie follows him trying to figure out who this person is. It has a lot of twists and turns and the ending is crazy.

Django Unchained – We decided that we only wanted one movie from Quinton Tarantino. It came down to Django Unchained, Inglorius Basterds, and The Hateful Eight. In the end the performances from Jamie Foxx and Leonardo Dicaprio put Django over the top for us. When you also put in the performances of Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz this is Tarantino’s best film.

The Shawshank Redemption – One of the greatest movies of all time. Tim Robbins isn’t my favorite actor but he puts on a very convincing performance in this movie. When we chose this movie I also mentioned The Green Mile but we quickly decided when it comes to prison movies there is nothing like this one.

So, those are our 10 favorite movies as a band, tell us YOUR favorite movies in the comment section!

I also wanted to give you a little update on our band. Our next show is this Friday! Its at the Basement in downtown Columbus. We open the show at 7pm and we still have a few $10 tickets left!! If you’d like one let us know. Sadly, this show will be the last one for Josh as a part of Ex-Nihilo. Let’s make sure we give him a great send off! Til next time, keep rockin’!
